OPERATING SYSTEM
Previous post in AMTAMS Information Technology, I say about software that collection of computer programs is called software. Of course, all the components that go together to make up a PC fall into one of two categories, hardware or software. In this section I can discuss little bit about software, especially system software (In this blog, I focus on Windows XP). There are three types of software found in every PC today: System Software (XP, UNIX), Application Software (Microsoft Word and DTP) and Utility Software (Antivirus software and Nero). Ok, well. The Operating system is system software that allows the user to interface with the computer; for example Microsoft Windows XP.

TYPES OF COMPUTERS
I will recall for you, in the Previous post, already we discussed about the uses of computer. You can ask a question, did all computers are same and have same function? No! Different types of Computers take, different types of performs. Some computers are so powerful that hundreds or even thousands of users can use them at a single instant. Classification of computers is based on the usage, speed, and size of computers. There are four main types of computers, namely Microcomputers, Minicomputers, Mainframes, and Supercomputers.

Microcomputer: A microcomputer is a complete computer on a smaller scale and it also called personal computer or PC, a computer designed for an individual. A microcomputer contains a microprocessor, memory, I/O ports, bus, and motherboard. This computer mostly used in home and office as well as this Computer performs tasks such as word processing, desktop publishing, and accounting.

Minicomputer: A minicomputer, a term no longer much used, is a computer of a size intermediate between a microcomputer and a mainframe. Typically, the minicomputer is a medium range computer. It is also known as the mid-range server.

Mainframe: Mainframes are very large and expensive computers. Thousands of people can use a mainframe at a time. It can process millions of transactions everyday. The mainframes are widely used in large companies worldwide.

Supercomputer: The Supercomputer is very fastest computer. Supercomputers specialize in high-speed processing of data. The Supercomputer is widely used in nuclear research.
